Computer Gaming: Installing and running SC3K/SC3KU with Windows XP

This procedure can be used in either SimCity 3000 or SimCity 3000 Unlimited.

1. Install the game. After you have installed the game, eject the CD and reboot your PC.

2. When your PC comes back up, run Internet Explorer and go to Windows Update, choose Windows Update from the Tools menu.

3. Once Windows Update has loaded, click Scan for updates.

4. In the Windows Update frame on the left side, choose Windows XP under Pick updates to install.

5. When that list is displayed, look for an update that reads as follows:

   This update addresses the "Game Stops Responding (Hangs) or Quits Unexpectedly When Introductory Video Clip Is
   Played" issue in Windows XP, and is discussed in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) Article 327979. Download now to
   prevent your computer from not responding during video playback
   

6. Click the Add button. This adds this update to the list of updates to install.

7. In the frame on the left side, click Review and install updates.

8. In the frame on the right, click the Install now button. The update will be downloaded and installed. It may take a few minutes if you are on dialup. Please be patient.

9. Once the update is downloaded and installed, Windows Update may tell you that you need to reboot. If it does, allow it to reboot your PC.

10. Once your PC comes back up, insert the game CD in the same drive you used to install it. The launcher should appear shortly. From there start the game. You should see the introduction movie normally. Following that, the game's main menu should appear.
